Winter storm blankets Lawrence with seven inch total

Lawrence awoke to five inches of snow with more expected, prompting road crews to plow main routes and then neighborhoods. Forecaster Jim Dudley of the Kansas University Weather Service said snow would fall in spurts today with light accumulation tonight, totaling about seven inches by Sunday. County and city officials reported open highways, urged slower driving, and noted neighboring Topeka and Manhattan saw heavier totals. Kansas highways 10, 59 and 40 toward Topeka were covered by snow.

Elvis stamp sale draws fans but not a sellout in Lawrence
