Colorado UFO study finds no evidence of visitors from space

University of Colorado researchers conclude the 1,485 page Air Force funded report finds no proof UFOs are interplanetary visitors and recommends no further extensive UFO studies at this time. The Air Force noted no comment on the results.

New district manager Ed Carter joins Southwestern Bell in Lawrence

Ed Carter of St Louis Mo assumed the district manager post for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co in Lawrence on Jan 1. He succeeds Steve Parsons and plans to move his family here by March or April after completing a house in Lawrence. Carter is a Pittsburg State College 1963 graduate with a business administration degree and has worked in Topeka Salina Kansas City Kans and Mission. He recently served on Southwestern Bell headquarters staff in St Louis and has six years with the company.

Two Theft Reports From KU Officers

Kansas University traffic and security officers reported two thefts. Byron Pappas said 15 stereo tapes and a case worth 150 dollars were taken from his parked car in O Zone east of Allen Fieldhouse after he left it locked. Lab equipment valued at 58.90 dollars was stolen from Lindley Hall Room 233 during the weekend.

Pentagon Seeks 33 100 Draft Quota for March

The Pentagon called for 33 100 men to be drafted in March for the Army and Marine Corps. The Army would receive 31 600 and the Marines 1 500, compared with 33 700 for February and 26 800 for January.

Charges Filed Against Girls At Topeka Hospital

Six juvenile girls at Topeka State Hospital face delinquency charges after two fires. Four were directly involved, two indirectly. They will be moved to the Shawnee County Youth Center or county jail. Names withheld pending judge direction. Damages estimated at 100 dollars and 75 patients evacuated. Governor Docking awaits state fire marshal report.

Supreme Court One Man One Vote Implemented Quickly

New York University law professor Dean Robert B. McKay says the Supreme Court ruling on one man one vote was implemented faster and more widely than any other historic decision. Four years after the decision, implementation is essentially complete, according to the Michigan Law Review published by the University of Michigan Law School.

Pension Slashed by widow of Kennedy

Mrs. Aristotle Onassis has stopped receiving the $10,000 annual presidential widow’s pension at her request. The Treasury said she asked in a late October letter that the pension end as of October 1, after she married Aristotle Onassis on October 20.

Purse Snatched on KU Campus Recovered by Police

A purse stolen from KU student Karen E Proctor on Tuesday night near the Kansas University campus was recovered Wednesday by Lawrence police. About $10 cash and some IDs were missing, items valued at $150 were recovered. The white male suspect fled in a waiting car after grabbing the purse. The purse was found on 15th Street near Iowa Street. Additional theft reports include a suitcase stolen from Lewis Hall and a car engine stolen from a northwest Lawrence address between December 21 and 29.

New President for Douglas County Trail Riders

Torkelson elected president of the Douglas County Trail Riders. Other officers include Leonard Walker as vice president Lanna Hentsch as secretary Dorothy Easum as treasurer Larry Warren as chairman of the Board of Trustees and trustees Bert Springer Marvin Fine Fred Downey and David Helmert. Plans call for shows and club activities next year with a chili supper planned for next month.
