Cabinet Nominee Plans Trust to Hold Merck Stock for Commerce Chief
John T. Connor nominee for Secretary of Commerce plans to place his Merck & Co. stock into an irrevocable trust while in office. He would transfer about $1.5 million of holdings, including $600,000 purchased for $100,000, and convert future Merck stock issued under an employee incentive program into the trust. The arrangement aims to shield assets from direct federal tax and scrutiny during confirmation hearings in the Senate Commerce Committee.
