Abolition Era Barn Reborn as Heritage Site Near Town
The lime stone two story barn at 2819 Stone Barn Terrace sits in a front yard now but once lay beyond town and sheltered a group led by abolitionist John Brown escaping slavery in Missouri. The city bought the barn in 1980 and used it as a fire station until 2006. In 2018 the National Park Service recognized it as an Underground Railroad site after Guardians of Grover Barn advocacy.
