Kansas forward Travis Releford scored 28 as KU defeated Oklahoma 72 61 at Noble Center. Coach Lon Kruger praised Releford as a big game player and noted KU can lean on multiple scorers. OU teammates cited scouting and energy swings that shifted the game after halftime.
Kansas Beleford scored a career high 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting as Kansas opened Big 12 play with a 64-49 victory over Kansas State. He helped spark a 23-4 second half run while Thomas Robinson added 18 points and nine rebounds. Coach Bill Self praised Releford’s aggressive scoring and defense as Tyshawn Taylor noted his improved stroke and finishing at the rim.
In a high scoring clash at Lawrence, Kansas led 39-27 at halftime, but Oklahoma 61 produced a 3 point heavy burst in the second half to pull away. Beleford and Robinson combined for 46 of KU's 72 points as KU shot 50 percent while OU finished at 38 percent. Officials were Steve Olson Kal Self and Warren Evans attendance 11 268.
Kansas junior Travis Releford battled a shoulder stinger in the second half before returning. Flagged foul on Juenemann late, KU coach Self pulled him from the game. Former KU guard Morningstar with Tulsa 66ers missed KU-OU. Aldrich and Collison also absent for Thunder. Tubbs addressed fans pregame. Conner Frankamp scored 47 in Wichita North overtime win over Wichita South.
