Adviser sparks stock selling binge in market rout
Joseph E. Granville, an Florida investment adviser, urged subscribers to dump stocks triggering sell orders across more than 100 issues. The Dow Jones average tumbled from a four year high, closing down after a sharp intraday drop, as volume soared to a record 92.89 million NYSE shares. Granville claimed responsibility, while critics called him a maverick and a snake oil salesman.
