Unusual truck crash at Mud Creek bridge on Highway 40
W. C. Derrington of Kansas City Kansas escaped injury after his Kenty Refrigerator Truck line semi trailer crashed at the Mud Creek bridge four miles east of Lawrence on Highway 40. The 1935 Chevrolet engine was left suspended above the creek by a pine post, the trailer tipped but was held from dropping. The trailer carried about five tons of eggs with many broken, the front end damaged, and insurance covering the truck and load. Derrington, an experienced driver on his second trip over the route, reported slipping on packed snow and attempting to bail out from the bumper, then receiving assistance to reach the bridge. He remained at the scene until help arrived and a wrecker was summoned.
