Death of Lawrence Civil War veteran Charles Strong at 85
Charles Benson Strong died at his home 447 Ohio street after a brief illness. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 2 PM at Rumsey funeral home with Rev. Seth W. Slaughter in charge and burial at Oak Hill cemetery. The American Legion will conduct grave services. He is survived by his wife Kate B Strong, three sons Fran R Strong Curtis H Strong John F Strong and daughter Mrs Lyman McCurdy. Strong was born August 8 1848 in Tecumseh Michigan and enlisted March 2 1861 in the Second Michigan Infantry at age 15. He moved to Kansas with parents in 1806 and settled at Easton Leavenworth County. He married Kate Hicks November 10 1870 and later lived on a farm northeast of Lawrence before moving to town about 15 years ago. He leaves four other Washington Post GAR members in Lawrence none of whom are named here.

Three local banks report deposits rising by 324,964.22 over two months, with gains in cash and sight exchange and total resources.
