Healthy Sprouts a countywide farm to preschool program is close to securing funds for another growing season but seeks more community support to sustain long term. It has $37,000 of a minimum goal and hopes a fundraiser and additional donations will close the gap.
Kansas universities led by Washburn Kansas State and the University of Kansas press to restore higher education funding after two years of multimillion dollar cuts. They seek to restore 23 million this fiscal year and 25 million slated for withdrawal next year as the 2014 Legislature opens in Topeka. President Kirk Schulz of Kansas State cites the need to support a better educated workforce for industry.
Josh Svaty of the Salina based Land Institute spoke at the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence to about 20 EcoTeam members. The talk covered agricultural and water issues, part of the LETUS inter faith network, with reference to the Ogallala aquifer’s vast underground water supply in the High Plains.
