Lake County prosecutors aim for the electric chair after indictments against cult leader Jeffrey Lundgren his wife son and 10 followers for the deaths of Dennis Avery 49 Cheryl 42 and their three daughters Trina 15 Rebecca 13 and Karen. Suspect surrenders peacefully in Topeka standoff
A daylong tense standoff ended when 62 year old Robert Lenon surrendered rather than fire a weapon after police negotiators talked through the night in central Topeka. Lenon faces murder charges in the Thursday death of 48 year old Guy R. Owens as officers revealed possible ties to Owens’ wife Hazel. Lenon’s brother flew in from Virginia to support the surrender and Lenon was taken to an unmarked car with an officer and his brother. Police indicated Lenon had been in personal crisis and that about 30 officers surrounded the scene while officials and a City Council member described the resolution as a safe outcome for all involved.
