A wide range of brief items reports Congress in Neaston with Gen Garfield resigning the TU BS seat, Mr Springer proposing a new appointive bill, and various events including a suicide by a Columbus lawyer, Irish and English calls, and regional weather notes amid other scattered notices.
The 1880 communication from Vice-President to the Senate reports A Garfield withdrew from acceptance of Ohio's six year Senate appointment set to begin March 4 1881. The record notes the December 23 letter to Ohio officials and the formal renunciation.
