Kansas highway plan proposals would raise taxes in 10-year plan
A Kansas legislative committee advanced two options to fund a new 10 year state transportation plan. One option would impose a 5.3 percent motor fuels sales tax with a 5 cent per gallon fuel tax cut, raising about 4.4 billion over 10 years. The other would lift the fuel tax by 7 cents per gallon with CPI based increases, totaling about 3.74 billion over a decade. Both include higher vehicle registration fees and $300 million in bonds, with implementation not until 2013.
