Lawrence sales tax growth slows and 2024 shortfalls grow
Lawrence 2024 sales tax collections grew 1 percent versus 2023, far below revised city hopes of 2.7 percent. When including use taxes, the total rose 1.5 percent, leaving a shortfall of about 9.37 million relative to 2024 budget and about 615 thousand against mid year revised estimates. City cuts and savings draw reduce the gap, but a $600 thousand remaining shortfall risks the 2025 budget.
