Freshwater jellyfish found at Oklahoma refuge
Biologists at Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge confirmed eight small freshwater jellyfish, Craspedacusta sowerbii, in a lake after a visitor report. The sighting expands the refuge’s species list beyond the 1,000 observed in a September Oklahoma Biological Survey survey. The creatures, about the size of a quarter, are usually found in calm waters and are now under study by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologists.
