Louis Lepke Buchalter the racketeer was sentenced to 14 years in prison for violating federal narcotics laws. He was convicted December 20 on an indictment accusing a 10 million dollar international narcotics smuggling syndicate. Cold weather and fireside comfort kept under 1,000 hunters from the seventh annual Douglas County C P A wolf drive. Three coyotes and a likely coyote dog cross were bagged. Gov. Payne G Ratner visited the roundup grounds near Zephyr ranch southeast of Eudora and spoke informally. Dr. F G Hagenbush led the hunt and noted many spectators watched the finish instead of hunting. About 200 cars were parked at the grounds as coyotes remained in holes due to the cold.

Exposure Deaths in Kansas City From Cold Weather
