South Lawrence Trafficway saga shows stalled federal road clash
Douglas County administrator Craig Weinaug notes the failed alignment for the South Lawrence Trafficway stems from a Federal Highway Administration mandate requiring unanimous agreement among Haskell Indian Nations University, Douglas County and Kansas Department of Transportation. He cites environmental rules blocking 35th Street. 38th Street abandoned due to Army Corps of Engineers permission doubts. eastern options and cost issues also factor, delaying completion.
