Franklin County election result invalidated for schools post
OTTAWA Eight-A contest court voids the election of Mrs. Kenneth Corbett as Franklin County superintendent of schools. Republican challenger Miss Lena Hutchins had 3 793 votes to Corbett's 5 603, contending Corbett lacked required teaching time in Kansas. County commissioners will appoint a successor when Hutchins' term ends in June. Mrs. J Hugh Dennett of Boston has been named advertising manager at Weaver's Department Store, succeeding Mrs. George Francis. Dennett, arriving in Lawrence in 1952, has worked in Boston and studied at Simmons College and the New England School of Art. The Dennetts reside at 1022 Me St.

Lyons County Wins State OK for Emergency Warrants
Lyons County secured state approval to issue $18,000 in emergency warrants to cover unbudgeted rental and other costs tied to moving county offices to temporary quarters as a new courthouse is constructed. The action enables funding while the project proceeds. Vinland Home Demonstration Unit held its December meeting at Mrs. George Hoskinson’s home with a covered dish luncheon and Christmas gift exchange led by president Mrs. W. E. Hoskinson.
