Hastert agrees to extra time for 9-11 probe extension
House Speaker Dennis Hastert on Friday backed a two month extension for the independent panel investigating the 9-11 attacks clearing the path for formal congressional approval. The move eased a separate crisis threatening highway programs and parts of the Transportation Department. President Bush supports the extension and Senate action followed on a voice vote. Sens McCain and Lieberman lifted a hold on a highway bill after assurances that the extension would proceed. Also on Friday government advisers urged a national registry for Accutane to prevent pregnancies among users. Every prescriber and pharmacy would be registered and providers must verify pregnancy tests and contraception use.
