Coal plant talks may stretch into next week
Three Kansas lawmakers voiced guarded optimism after a second round of talks on Sunflower Electric Power Corp. to build two coal fired plants in Finney County near Holcomb. The $3.6 billion project is stalled over environmental concerns and new air quality limits. Negotiators warned talks could extend into next week as they debated a bill creating a study commission and limiting the health secretary's power. Separately a Senate measure would permanently bar teachers convicted of sexual battery against a minor from Kansas classrooms, widening the penalty to lifetime revocation and prompting debate over obscene material in class.
