KU Piecemeal Budget Cuts Target 4.8 Million This Year
Kansas University leaders seek to save nearly 5 million dollars over the next several months in response to state budget gaps. The plan cuts 2.7 million from the Lawrence campus and 2.1 million from KU Medical Center, largely through vacancies, delayed spending, and departmental savings. Deans and vice provosts will implement reductions with academic cuts of 0.2 to 1.1 percent, nonacademic cuts around 0.7 percent, and the Office of Public Affairs halting some marketing to save 9,000 dollars. Governors and lawmakers shape next year’s budget as KU monitors 2016 2017 prospects.
