Bomber crashes near Sharon Kansas with three airmen dead

U S Navy to Launch First Modern Anti Submarine Sub
The navy will launch a small anti submarine submarine, designated K 1, at Electric Boat in Groton Conn on Friday. It carries advanced sonar and weapons to hunt and sink enemy subs. The 195 foot craft displaces 750 tons and remains largely secret except for its dimensions. Also, the city council will meet at City Hall tonight at 7 30.

KU Student Fleagle arraigned in burglary case
David Keith Fleagle 18 from Lawrence Kansas was arraigned Saturday in county court on one burglary count and seven larceny counts. Bound over to district court May term. Bond set at 5000. He was arrested Friday night for a string of fraternity and sorority house robberies at KU. He admitted the burglaries to Sheriff Travis Glass. Most stolen items found at his Ohio street home. Fleagle, a KU freshman, is the nephew of 1920s bank robber Jake Fleagle. His mother said his Syracuse attorney brother will represent him. Sisters at Kappa Kappa Gamma identified stolen items to be returned after further investigation.

PLAN FOR PEA PACK EXPANDS TO SIX HUNDRED ACRES
Stokley Foods plans to contract about 600 acres of peas this year up from 500 last year. As of today 208 acres are contracted and contracting should finish next week. Planting starts in about two weeks with packing set to begin around May 25. Weather last year caused a late start and uneven harvest, but 60,000 cases are targeted if conditions are favorable, a rise over last year. Pork and beans packing continues near 45,000 cases weekly, with 40,000 packed last week. Railroad strikes slowed can shipments but normal activity should resume by week’s end.
