Prosecutors: KC firefighter led drug army and rings
Kansas City fire captain Gilbert L Dowdy allegedly commanded a four million dollar monthly crack cocaine network with 125 soldiers and four generals. A mule testified to carrying 280 pounds of cocaine in nine months. The operation allegedly used fire stations as crack houses and laundered profits through businesses and property. Dowdy and eleven others were indicted. Dowdy pleads innocence and faces ten federal charges. A separate case saw Edward E Searing plead guilty to illegal gambling and money laundering as part of a different ring.
