Marla Welch, founder of Pieces, creates hand knit quilts donated to Lawrence Memorial Hospital's pediatric department. Lawrence Celebrates First Torah Scroll Dedication
The Chabad Center in Lawrence filled a tent with about 100 people as a scribe from Israel finished Lawrence's first Torah scroll. Rabbi Zalman Tiechtel called the event a new plateau for the community, with future generations to read and use the Torah. Local leaders including Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little and Mayor Mike attended.
