Premier Clyrenceau aims to return to council chamber within a few days as peace efforts proceed despite an anarchist bullet incident. Authorities report the event did not derail plans and no further injuries were recorded.
Paris February 20 Premier Clemenceau wounded in the shoulder yesterday by Emile Cottin. He is in satisfactory condition with no fever and an X ray pending results. Doctors call him seriously hurt yet improving. delegates may wait days before resuming the peace conference as he recovers. The Paris peace conference adjourned for today per dispatch.
President Wilson on the U S S Washington sends a condolence note amid news of the attack on Premier Clemenceau. He expresses deep sympathy for Clemenceau, relief at his escape, and is shocked by the reports of the incident. Signed Woodrow Wilson.
Despite rumors, the Uncle Jimmie Day Banquet will be held in Lawrence this spring per FLW Salvesen president of the senior laws. The event has never been outside Lawrence and protesters from Naras City were blocked by customs. Topeka lawyers offered to host but the banquet remains in Lawrence.
The University of Kansas plans a voluntary Reserve Officers Training Corps program approved by the Senate. Freshmen and sophomores may take drill in place of gym, while juniors seniors and faculty may enroll for commissions. Chief Monroe issued two warnings to drivers who repeatedly turn around before reaching the center of the block near Kaw Widley Interurban station to prevent accidents.
Three alarms were struck overnight and this morning for fires caused by wiring faults. At 11:58 PM a blaze at 1615 Tennessee Street East damaged the CL Scott residence but caused no loss. At 5:08 AM the Massachusetts Street home of W. W. Cockins was set by a light fixture, with a $25 loss. A tree-burning incident at 10:10 AM on Eleventh end Ohio Streets resulted in a small blaze from electric wires on the tree.

Prof W A McKeever of the university clarifies in a signed statement that extravagant student parties at Kansas University are needless and childish. He urges modest costs, criticizing lavish dances as heathenish and unworthy of a great industrial commonwealth, and calls for parties built on brains and dignity rather than display.
Dean F W Blackmar of the University of Kansas appoints delegates from major universities to represent the American Sociological Society at a series of congresses on the League of Nations. Meetings span New York to St Louis with Ex-President Taft leading talks. Five Sociological Society members join the St Louis congress on February 24 1895: Elwood Dowd Wolfe Smith and Elmer.
The honorary engineering fraternity Sigma Tau rewards John Kinkle of Topeka with the first gold medal for the top freshman record. Open to all freshmen in the School of Engineering, the award honors scholarship social achievements and practical work. Kinkle, returning sophomore class president, leads all freshmen in grades. One medal will be given annually.
Rev Arthur Ward will preach at Valley Chapel church this Sunday at three oclock in the afternoon. Miss Kalb to perform a piano solo while Messrs Childs and Lutz sing.
Jennie Payne filed for divorce from Jesse Payne in county court yesterday afternoon. The case will not be tried for sixty days.
Lawrence High School student council funds will plant sixteen sugar maple memorial trees on Arbor Day in memory of sixteen war fallen Lawrence boys. Trees donated by graduate Mr W W Griesa and placed at the new high school site on Massachusetts Street. Sugar maples chosen for beauty and hardiness. board and vocational agriculture classes supervise planting. student council to insure protectors funded by sale of old newspapers.
Treasury urges prompt action as short term notes due. Lawrence post office distributes 1918 tax sheets to those who did not file in 1917. Collectors urge early payment by March 15 to meet government obligations, while officials note public salaries from state and local sources for 1918 are exempt from taxation.
