Student Death Ruled Death by Own Action
Richard Harley Smith 28 of 704 Forrest Ave died Monday from a self inflicted gunshot wound. A .25 automatic was found beside him in the Lawrence home where his wife and two children were out shopping. A KU graduate student from Little Rock he had planned to teach history and had recently moved from Arkansas. Funeral services are set for Thursday in Little Rock with the body to be sent tonight to Arkansas.

Lawrence Council Endorses Public Accommodations Proposal
Lawrence Council of Churches on Monday evening endorsed the Lawrence Human Relations Commission public accommodations ordinance. About 30 people from 10 churches attended at Centenary Methodist Church. The council will send a letter of endorsement to Mayor Rusty Springer. The ordinance, approved Feb. 5, would bar discrimination in services based on race creed color or national origin. The council also scheduled Good Friday services, planned a migrant ministry, and proposed a pulpit exchange and youth programs with voluntary five cent per member contributions for Fellowship. The next meeting is March 16 at the Christian Church.
