William J. Cummings 86 of 2225 Barker Ave former Lawrence police chief and Douglas County sheriff died Wednesday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He served four terms as sheriff 1912-196 and 1925-29 and led the police 1929-1931. Survivors include a daughter Irma Vaughn two sons William III and Robert L. six grandchildren and a sister Myra Belle Cummings. Funeral arrangements to be announced by Rumsey Funeral Home.
