Professor links science and faith in Templeton prize win

The Rev Dr Thomas Torrance of Edinburgh wins the 1978 Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion worth 97000 dollars. He argues modern science dissolves old mechanistic views and opens religious knowledge to a new synthesis. Torrance, professor of Christian dogmatics at the University of Edinburgh, has long linked science and theology in works on space, time, incarnation, and natural theology. He says the shift toward an objective intelligibility of the universe challenges dualist thinking and furthers both science and faith.
