A large Goodyear warehouse and tire plant in North Kansas City burned early today destroying 10 000 to 15 000 new car tires and 1 000 old tires plus 600 bicycles. Fire director Francis Wornall estimated losses at over 500 000 with the blaze disrupting traffic on a northern highway approach. The origin of the fire remained undetermined and the facility served Kansas western Missouri and parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Lieut Warren Anderson of Lawrence Kansas narrowly avoided a fatal hit when a three inch fragment of flak pierced the bomber's nose as he waited for his bomb sight position during a raid on the St Nazaire U boat base.
