Lawrence resident Bill Snead, a photographer and journalist for The Washington Post National Geographic and UPI, died Sunday after a long cancer battle. He began as a Lawrence Journal-World photographer at 17 and later served as deputy editor and senior editor before leaving in 2007.

Common Ground garden program grows in Lawrence community

Michael Morley, project coordinator, notes gardens foster neighborly ties and civic engagement while he describes laying out plots and installing irrigation, sheds, and fences. Morley began in 2012, recruiting participants for the Penn Street garden at 1313 Pennsylvania St, and later helped establish Pearl Clark Garden at 639 Illinois St in Old West Lawrence as a nearby pocket park.
