Plane sales to Mideast suggested
The Carter administration plans a package of Arab arms sales with a popular Israel deal to gain congressional approval. It proposes 60 F-15s for Saudi Arabia, 15 more F-15s and 75 F-16s for Israel, and 50 F-5E fighters for Egypt, drawing swift opposition from senators who warn of increased regional threats and potential vetoes in both houses.

Commission OKs cab fare increase in Lawrence
Lawrence city commissioners approved a cab fare rise to the highest in six-city survey with a 10 percent average hike. The Transportation Corp. firms faced rising costs and warned of potential market loss as fares move from 1.60 to 1.76 for a typical 1 23 mile trip, with similar increases on shorter rides. The action requires an ordinance and separate accounting, plus publicizing shared ride programs.
