General Dwight D. Eisenhower, army chief of staff, spent two hours at Fort Leavenworth and the Command and General Staff School. He met 36 alumni from 1926, addressed officer pupils, and urged leaders to connect with enlisted men while maintaining discipline. He was accompanied by Lt. Gen. Leonard T. Gerow and Maj. Gen. William G. Livesay, with foreign officers and British instructors present. He then departed for Fort Uey on a similar stop.

Topeka February 15 Pi-Rep F B Ross Emporis 62 today filed with the Kansas secretary of state his candidacy for lieutenant governor on the Republican ticket. Rose is the first formally announced candidate for a state office in the 1946 election. Rosa and Reo F L Hageman 61 Kansas City Kan told reporters they would be candidates for lieutenant governor in the coming election. Text book group to meet.
A committee appointed to select rare high school textbooks will meet tomorrow with the county superintendent of schools. The panel will choose from an approved list of text books sent by the state education department.
London February 15. Levantine states accuse Britain and France of a grave assault on sovereignty and press for immediate and simultaneous withdrawal of foreign troops from Syria and Lebanon. Soviet and American delegates back withdrawal while urging continued council oversight and progress reports. France and Britain insist they will withdraw as security arrangements mature and deny plans for indefinite presence.
Washington February 15 The cabinet met with the President in regular session but Secretary of the Interior Harold L Ickes was absent amid his looming resignation. Ickes had said he had less than three days to clear a backlog in the department and Truman accepted his resignation as of close of business today with a March 31 departure date.
The legislative council special committee in Topeka on February 15 voted to back constructing a new administrative building and vocational training shop at the Kansas State Boys' Industrial School in Topeka. The plan includes closing the current auditorium and replacing it with the new facility to expand mechanical arts training for the boys. The proposal will be submitted to the March legislative council session, with follow up studies to March 6 and a possible tour of the state receiving home for children at Atchison. Committee members include Wunsch, Cavaness, Woodman, and Stamper.
Washington reports Paul Porter, a Kentucky rental executive, has taken over as director of the Office of Price Administration. Porter, a former deputy administrator, seeks to keep price levels in check, with OPA funding extended by Congress despite Republican opposition. The House approved a 524,000 deficiency to finance enforcement against black markets as extension legislation moves toward floor action.
Santa Fe will run two daily buses from Sunflower Village to the University of Kansas for veteran students. Departures start at 7 45 a m with arrivals at 8 20 a m after morning classes. Return trips from Watson Library occur at 5 10 p m. Two more buses join next week on a different schedule.

University of Kansas announces an eight week summer term from June 18 to August 10 directed by George Baxter Smith dean of education. Registration begins June 19 with classes starting that day. Second six week terms run for the law school from June 18 to July 27 and July 29 to September 7. Dormitory and room accommodations will be provided. A clinical division will be added at the School of Medicine in Kansas City.
The United States will seek a full study of freedom of information as a priority task of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. Edward R. Stettinius Jr said the move aims to draft recommendations or a convention, to be submitted to the Economic and Social Council and member governments, with prompt action urged. Cooper and others urged broader press freedom and the basic right to know.
The bulletin predicts warmer spells across Missouri Kansas Nebraska and Oklahoma by Sunday with scattered showers or light rain Monday into Tuesday. Nebraska faces increased storm risk while temperatures stay near or slightly above normal overall. Kansas looks to be fair with milder days ahead and cooler nights.
