Benny Coyote Is Freed After Bite Case Ruling
In Peabody Kansas on February 15 the district court freed Benny Coyote after a jury found the coyote provoked by Alexander Ward whose teasing led to the bite. The defense argued self defense and the jury accepted provocation, denying damages. Carl Carlson, sued by Alexander Ward's father over Benny, declared Benny's character unimpeachable and temper normally good. The court noted Benny's wagging tail and wound as evidence of provocation rather than malicious intent.

Fire at the Kappa Eta Kappa fraternity house on 19 West Fourteenth Street started around 9 45 am from a defective chimney. It damaged the roof and walls of three upper rooms and caused fire and water damage to lower rooms with total losses around 1500 dollars. The frame three story building is owned by Dr Owens of Olathe. Twenty one of thirty members reside there and ten were present when the blaze began. The fraternity is a professional electrical engineering group at the University.

Beer Ring Leaders Sentenced in Prohibition Case
Three principal defendants in the militia Penns sylvania beer ring case were sentenced in Cleveland. William Loughran and William Quinn of Serartan pleaded guilty to conspiring against prohibition laws and received one year and a day in Atlanta prison plus a $5,000 fine each. Bandits' pistol found in holdup case tied to missing funds
County officers recovered a $2 calibre pistol believed used in the $1,800 holdup of Byron Cooke on Vermont Street. A police trap in Greensburg Kansas failed to catch a would be extortionist who wrote threats to grain and oil dealer Robert Bailey. $2,000 in small bills was placed in a tin can under a railway culvert as directed.
