American Home Products agreed to pay 8 to 9 million dollars to Virginia Brinkley in a Houston suit over heart valve damage linked to the ten phen diet drug combination. Brinkley faced multiple valve replacements as trial was set for Monday. American Home pulled fenfluramine in 1997 after Mayo Clinic found heart valve risks. Earlier, the company announced a 4.8 billion dollar settlement for fen phen lawsuits, a plan some plaintiffs’ lawyers reject.
