Higher Education Panel Proposes State Coordinating Council
Kansas lawmakers discuss a plan to create the Kansas Council on Higher Education to coordinate and fund 19 community colleges, Washburn University, and vocational schools while preserving local control. The proposal would replace the Legislative Education Planning Committee with a new governing body, requiring a state constitutional amendment. The committee toured western Kansas, hearing community college concerns as they consider statewide reform.
