Tragedy in Utica Fire Claims Eleven Family Members
A two story frame dwelling in Utica Cedar Street burned in a flash fire killing eleven members of one family. Six bodies were recovered by firefighters including four children and a woman holding an infant. Nine children ranged from five months to 19 years. Several others escaped and were hospitalized with burns after jumping from a second story window. The building collapsed trapping sleeping residents before many could flee. The list of victims includes Mrs Ruth Hoage and Mrs Shirley Hoage and multiple Hoage children. The injured were hospitalized at St Elizabeth’s.
