A study of 296 extremely preterm children born around 2 pounds found IQ scores can rise over time, with many borderline cases reaching near normal ranges by age 8. Early therapy, two-parent homes, and higher maternal education correlated with greater gains, though overall averages remained lower than normal birth-weight peers.
