Brownback voids LGBT protections for state workers
Governor Sam Brownback rescinded a 2007 executive order shielding state employees from discrimination based on sexual orientation or identity. He replaced it with a new order affirming non discrimination on race color gender religion national origin ancestry or age. The move, part of nine orders from prior governors, drew praise from some and outrage from civil rights groups.

Apartments rise atop Pachamamas building in Lawrence
Local businessman Doug Compton confirms a deal to convert the Pachamamas site at Eighth and New Hampshire into a five story apartment block with about 60 units. The plan adds four stories atop the existing structure without demolition, preserving the historic armory core.
