Four year terms for elective county and township officers were proposed in a constitutional amendment in the Kansas House. Rep. Hubert Fatzer said longer terms would cut election costs and stabilize local government, potentially attracting better candidates. Wabash Water Recedes After Severe Indiana Flood
The worst flood in 46 years began receding at Wabash as sandbag and pumping crews took over in Peru downstream. Emergency shelters opened as about 350 families along the upper Wabash and 120 more in Fort Wayne sought safety from rising water.
