London, Feb. 11. The Labour cabinet weighed extending power cuts nationwide amid a coal shortage, with unemployment rising and factories idle. Churchill denounced high-level incompetence in Parliament as Britain braces for deeper energy curbs and rationing through a severe winter.
A weekend voyage left the Marooned Scouts thrilled by their experiences. They were rescued yesterday afternoon after a challenging period ashore and at sea, with reports noting their safety and return.

Topeka February 11 a bill requiring actual examinations for driver licenses was introduced by Rep Christian and Rep McGinnis. The measure would test eyesight reading traffic signs and laws and revoke licenses for habitual offenders and those under 18. A second measure would reactivate the Kansas National Guard with new staff and pay scales.
Police investigated a two-vehicle crash at the snow covered intersection of Sixteenth and Indiana Streets. The 1942 Pontiac driven by Wayne Kaynes and a 1940 Chevrolet driven by Duke Jarcere collided at 7 44 a.m. Both vehicles sustained damage but occupants reported no injuries.
Peiping faced a major assault as about three thousand Chinese communists raided the city on Monday. They freed prisoners, burned district government offices, police stations, a railroad depot and other facilities, with a government armored train aiding the counterattack. Estimates of casualties surfaced in reports.
Kansan potato growers endorsed a government price support system tied to acreage goals with a 10 percent payment on eligible planted potatoes. Officials said 700 of 4100 acres in the state are assigned to Douglas county growers with plans to sign before planting around March 15. A proposed alternate scheme was rejected as costly.
F A Russell of 1656 Illinois Street filed a nominating petition to run in the March 4 Republican primary for the Third Ward council seat. He has served on the council since April 1995. Other wards show Republican candidates in early filings. Mayor candidates include James A Parsons and Dr H E Eustace. Filing deadline is February 21. Boston reports a nation wide hunt for 22 year old World War I machine gunner Sylvester Gardiner son of former Maine governor William Tudor Gardiner. He vanished January 23 while believed to be in Colorado visiting skiing areas. Family fears treacherous ice or accident may have caused his disappearance.
The Balvatian Army reported today that Mr and Mrs J W Hess lost their home on Route 3 two miles north of Lawrence opposite the Blue Bird Inn. Hess a World War II veteran, is staying with his father while the Salvation Army provides clothing and seeks furniture cooking utensils dishes and bedding donations. Call Salvation Army for pickup of items such as dresser bed mattress kitchen chairs table gas stove or oil heater and other essentials. Banks in Lawrence will be closed February 12 1947 for a legal holiday adv.
Lawrence city council voted to renegotiate two land purchase commitments tied to $75,000 parks bonds. One site at Eleventh and Delaware must be bought by adjournment of the Kansas legislature, the other at Nineteenth and Louisiana by June 1, 1948 for veterans housing. Funds were cut when the bonds were removed from approval measures.
