Army fliers die in Fort Leavenworth crash near Blue Springs
Two Sherman Field airmen from Fort Leavenworth died when their advanced training observation plane crashed near Blue Springs Missouri. Second Lieut. Boyd V. Mann 29 of Pittsburg Kansas and Second Lieut. Norman R. Meeks 27 of Wichita Kansas were members of the 127th observation squadron on a routine flight. The crash occurred within 100 yards of the town’s main street. Investigators say a forced landing was attempted. Mann’s parents formerly lived in Blue Springs. Mann and Meeks were killed instantly as the plane plowed into the ground. Meeks a KU graduate 1939 and history major. Both men had ties to Kansas.

Mrs. R. C. Jackman Dies After Long Illness
Mrs. Olivia Ellen Rees Jackman, 625 Ohio street, died this morning at University of Kansas hospital in Kansas City Kansas after a long illness. She would have turned 66 next week. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Born in Minneapolis Kansas, she was daughter of Franklin C. and Catherine Rees and attended the University of Kansas in the late 1890s as a Kapna Kanna Gamma member. She married Richard Clark Jackman May 14, 1900 and moved to Lawrence in 1905. She belonged to Trinity Frisconal church. Survived by husband, two daughters Mrs. Vernon H. Smith Omaha and Mrs. William Carter Lawrence, two sons Richard Rees Jackman and Franklin Clark Jackman Lawrence, brother Arthur Pres, nine grandchildren.
