Senator Jackson says a subcommittee will seek Trevor Gardner views on boosting the Defense Department missile effort. Gardner announces resignation as assistant Air Force secretary for research and development citing a difference with Pentagon leaders and urging a crash program for intermediate and intercontinental missiles. He warned the lone-ranger missile project must rapidly advance. Gardner told Congress last year the Air Force was short about 200 million dollars for research. He declined to say whether Russia leads in 10000 mile or 1500 mile missiles, but pressed for rapid development.

A poison bottle was found beside the bed and his landlady Mrs Lachmand said the death occurred while he studied chemistry at Washington University in St Louis.
