Invest with Kids studies begin financial concepts with kindergartners
Researchers from Invest Foundation Kansas City visited 23 kindergartners at three schools to study when children form financial identity. The project runs through second grade with three years of lessons and a control group of second graders receiving no lessons. Children were given four dollars in play money to split among cookies, charity, or savings to teach opportunity costs. Ester chose cookies and pet food, saving two dollars for a future summer day, and families also learned about Chinese New Year through crafts. Families received Kindle tablets with EPIC! access, with control group to receive tablets next year.
