Kansas Chamber presses spending cuts tax plan debate
Kansas Chamber of Commerce urges lawmakers to consider spending cuts as Rep Arlen Siegfreid questions Brownbacks administration tax plan. Last year Kansas cut income tax rates and expanded deductions while lawmakers warn of a looming budget shortfall. Brownback seeks phased future tax cuts but proposes immediate elimination of popular mortgage and property tax deductions and keeping the 6.3 percent sales tax steady. Republicans back the long term tax phaseout while Democrats call last years cuts reckless and risky.
