Firefighters contained the kitchen fire by 10 17 am with no injuries reported. occupants received Red Cross lodging and housing authority assistance. the other unit was unoccupied. Snow totals rise as northeast Kansas gets surprise weekend snow
The National Weather Service reports about 2 inches of snow fell in Lawrence Sunday from 9 a.m. to shortly before 1 p.m., larger than the expected dusting. Meteorologist Matt Wolters says 1 to 2 inches were common across northeast Kansas as moisture surpassed forecasts. Overnight temps drop to around 8 degrees with a weekend warmup expected into the 40s later in the week. A 1 to 3 inch snow chance returns Tuesday, with possible freezing rain as the system exits, and another 30 percent risk of snow Friday night into Saturday.
