Kickapoo seek fed help for Plum Creek Reservoir land
The Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas plans to ask the federal government to use treaty rights to acquire land for the Plum Creek Reservoir near their Topeka area property. After a seven year dispute a federal court ruled the tribe cannot compel eminent domain by Nemaha Brown Watershed District No. 7. The tribal leaders met with Gov. Brownback to press for federal action to secure land and include tribal water needs in the Kansas Water Plan.

Lighting plan at Rock Chalk Park stirs city homeowner dispute
Richard Hird, lawyer for Jack Graham, argues the city failed to follow its processes as it moves forward with 100-foot light poles at Rock Chalk Park in northwest Lawrence. City officials acknowledge permit issues exist after a photometric plan was not reviewed by commissioners before approvals for the more than 30 million complex. The plan aims to light stadiums for track and field, softball, soccer, outdoor tennis, and a large recreation center, with assurances no harmful glare will affect nearby homes.
