The Times notes that cost cutting rewards, a 55 million dollar competition for colleges to boost value, and shopping sheets with financial aid and post graduate earnings data could reshape KU. KU Provost Vitter cites rising tuition but ongoing affordability efforts and partnerships with two year colleges to smooth two to four year transitions. He stresses four year on-time graduation saves money and KU tuition remains low among peers, while cautioning about for profit use of federal funds. EU professors propose publicly subsidized savings accounts for children funded by reallocating Perkins dollars to match family contributions and charity inputs, aiming to ease student debt with congressional hurdles ahead.
Southwest Middle School sixth grader Milo Schoenen earned second place at the Douglas County Spelling Bee and will compete in the Topeka regional on March 3 after spelling acolyte and susceptible correctly. The event featured 31 spellers across 14 rounds with coach Adrian Jacobs praising the contestants despite fatigue and heat.
