He sought at least 1 billion dollars by loan and credit, authority to buy and sell wheat and products, import export powers, storage facilities, dealer licensing, railroad and steamship priority, and traffic controls to move cereals to markets at home or abroad. After seeding 100 million bushels and 470 million for home use, exports would drop by 48 million bushels.
First Lieutenant Alden Logan son of former city council member David Logan returned from France after entering trench warfare at the Argonne forest as early as May 12. He sailed from Newport News March 30 and served with Company G 370th Infantry, now at Camp Dix. He is home on a twelve day leave after being gassed three times and facing the brutal Ypres style fighting.
