Hutchinson faces ongoing danger after gas blasts
After a January 17 explosion destroyed a downtown building and a blast killed two in Big Chief Mobile Home Park, Hutchinson residents cope with fear and displacement. Gas from the Yaggy cavern is being vented as Kansas Gas Service drills wells. 19 homes and 43 businesses evacuated, 25 evacuees sheltering at the state fairgrounds.

Researchers pursue seismic survey for ancient gas routes
Rex Buchanan of the survey notes crews use a large truck to emit seismic waves hundreds of feet underground. Microphone receivers capture data, sent to a cartlike truck with computer gear. Waves depict rock water and salt layers as analysts seek ancient waterways that could show gas routes to Hutchinson. The work aims to guide where to drill wells and vent natural gas, with four miles of land to read by Tuesday.
