Judge Hugh Meant Opens February Court Session
The February term of the district court for Douglas county opened at 9:40 this morning with Judge Hugh Meant presiding. Of 119 cases docketed, 59 were dismissed, including two criminal cases. The city of Lawrence versus Grace Byrd for possession of liquor was dismissed and the state of Kansas versus Garland Brown was dismissed on the state's motion. The jury will be sworn in next Monday.

Rocket Hits Sand Truck South of Wichita
The driver of a sand truck was killed when a southbound Rock Island Rocket collided with the vehicle at a grade crossing about a mile south of Wichita Kansas. The engine derailed and dragged along the track for 100 yards. Two train crew members were injured. names were not immediately available.

Students Rescue Three Small Lads On University of Kansas Ice
Three boys ages 6 to 7 narrowly escaped drowning after stepping onto thin ice at Potter Lake on the University of Kansas campus. Dr Cora Downe alerted rescuers Luther Buchele Jack Feilman and Richard Buddle helped pull Osborn Slifer and Faulkner from the water as the lake fell away beneath them. The Faulkner boy returned to shore, while the other two broke through but were saved with a large hole aiding their escape. Fire department helped bring the boys to safety and all were treated for cold exposure.
