Wheatland plans affordable housing annexation in Lawrence
The Estates of Lawrence proposal would add eight buildings with 12 two bedroom and 20 three bedroom units, rent controlled and aimed at 50 to 60 percent of Douglas County median income. Annexation into the city and rezoning depend on the Lawrence Douglas County Planning Commission and City Commission approvals. If tax credits are awarded, Wheatland Investments would own The Estates for 30 years and maintain affordability. The site at 1356 East 1600 Road sits in county territory. Residents supported keeping temporary stop signs on 27th Street as traffic calming, with staff to study further tools.
